2006T I overlapped the
60 tunes better than 2005 but it doesn't attain
2005's emotional intensity; this feels more
expository. Unfortunately, this is the first year
our radio station received no jungle music and no
dubstep either. I only play music that KALX
receives on the show. I locked myself
in my living room and searched for all the soulful
global grooves in my 12" crates and CD stacks.
After picking the strong tunes, I swirled them into
a stirring mix. All done in a fierce, frenzied day.
One take. No practicing. A triumph...
makes sense out of 60 powerful moments in music.
Better than 2003. Buoyant mix of
house, tech-house, techno, glitch, an 80's remix,
electro, breaks, and a Commodore 64
tune. Perhaps the
smoothest mix yet in the series, but more
disparate. Riveting
tech-funk. I student taught
summer school for 2nd graders entering 3rd grade in
East Oakland, and Edward couldn't contain his
incredible zest and would punctuate it with a
"Yeauh!" So I dug for the boppinest' beats I could
find to share with him and the class. Mostly
hip-hop. Live
at the Lucky Lounge / Slashed and Burned: Bargain
Bin Jungle The epitome of no
boundaries - a truly eclectic mix. I had a bag of
records - some old, some new, the result of many
uncalculated movements. I brought them to Kingman's
and played through the bag in a way that made
sense. / Gems from the Amoeba Electronica clearance
CD's - old school jungle with plenty of crazy
drums! The best whole
mix yet in this series, although it doesn't eclipse
the magic of the first half of Electronicollage
2000. A tight ride but
it feels like it has definite segments rather than
being a seamless whole. Lots of great
individual pieces but more difficult to fit
together! (includes Bad Bad Tack) 3/15/2001 Bad Bad
Tack Made for the Live
105 jungle mix contest, hoping to open for Roni
Size at the now-defunct Maritime Hall in April
2001. I decided on 10 scintillating tunes to drop
in 20 minutes. After 15 takes, I had enough and
this is it - my most precise mix. Live 105 nixed it
because of the Aaliyah song, which I thought was a
stroke of genius. (included in
2001
Megamix) 12/25/2000 *
Electronicollage
2000 Mom, Dad, and
Anne joined me on Christmas Eve. I feel the love of
my family had something to do with the way I
organized and arranged the 52 CD's and records to
be played on the air, especially the magical first
half of the show. 5/19/1998 Hip
Slop Knockout intro
samplefest followed by every record that was dope
to me at the time. I attempted the ultimate mix
with the perfect sequence. It ended up being a
loveable hodgepodge, with a lot of heart and
endearing foibles. My first offering. |
